Here, you will be able to follow all the news related to my scientific and literary activities. I promise I'll try not to be boring! But maybe you like some of the content posted here, sincerely.
Why am I a scientist? Well, I've always been very curious about everything. Since I was a little boy, I've had a particular inclination to ask questions and look for ways to satisfy my curiosity. And have you ever stopped to think that a scientist is someone whose job is precisely to satisfy their own curiosity? Of course, in the process we have to convince others that our curiosity is something worth investing in, but when we do, the rewards are often very rewarding.
Wasn't it Alexander Fleming's curiosity about why on earth a fungus could inhibit the growth of bacteria that led us to the discovery of antibiotics? Was it not Maria Skłodowska-Curie's curiosity that led us to discover radium and everything that came after it? So it is. You never know what curiosity can generate...
And what about literature? Well then, literature is another way to let out creativity. It could be through visual arts, it could be through music, but literature chose me... since I was a little boy, one of my favorite subjects was Portuguese (alongside science/biology, you see). Both in science and in "fantasy", as I present in the opening of the site, creativity is fundamental. Both depend on and develop because of creativity. However, in science creativity is somewhat limited (with every reason!), so to speak. We cannot write anything, the way we want. Nor can we invent freely, because in science our commitment is to the search for an explanation of how the universe works, and for that the method must be rigorous.
On the other hand, literature is an open field, wild, hedonistic and absolutely free. Here, creativity can run wild, without any commitment to truth, logic and consensus. Here things come out more purely, so to speak. And that doesn't take away the value of literature, or science! Each has its objectives and therefore its methods, or lack thereof. So let's enjoy what's good in both!
